The Badlands
August 2005

One of the first overlooks just after entering the Badlands.
This was taken slightly into the sun which was quite high overhead.
It's easy to see why the badlands are considered to be so unnavigable.
It should also be apparent how little water and vegetation is around.

This photo was taken further into the Badlands.
Things look even more arid and the canyons are deeper.

After having traveled through and cleared some passes I emerged to places that seemed to be at the southern edges.  These areas melded into much less formidable land.
