Indian Tunnel
Craters of the Moon
May 2006

After having just walked down the steps into the opening and turning left one sees the main portion of the Indian Tunnel.  This is the only tunnel at Craters of the Moon where the hiker doesn't need to be carrying a flashlight with extra batteries.  These tunnels are apparently the remains of old lava tubes.

After walking a bit down into the tunnel, you can turn around and take a picture of the entry way.  Notice the metal stairway.

After one gets through a little ways you can see the light shining in from the end of the tunnel.  Obviously there is also an opening from above at this point in the tunnel.

Once you walk almost all the way through the tunnel you can see the opening at the end.
You really can walk up and out through this opening!
