Craters of the Moon
North Flow

There is a trail at about the first stop on the loop drive.
This is called the North Flow.

Hopefully this photo portrays how interesting the old lava flows can look.

While wandering along the trail, one arrives at this old gnarled tree.
There is a plaque that gives a discussion about scientific efforts to date this tree.
It ended up proving to be much older than people first anticipated.

  An old river of lava.

The placard said that these were pieces of a cone that had broken apart and flowed along with the lava until they were dropped here.
